Videocassette recorder - VCR

VCR is short for video cassette recorder and is distinctly different from a VTR in that both record video signals however the VTR is usually not fitted

with a TV tuner.

VCR Video cassette recorders have been with us for 20 years now and almost every home has at least one, even third world countries have a large

percentage of VHS VCR's and most developing nations home are filled with the latest digital DVD kit and the old faithful VHS VCR is still to be found in the entertainment cabinet or under the television or on top too.

Many of us have huge tape collections and most have more VHS tapes for the VCR than DVD's and progressively we are all being moved on to DVD and Blue Ray HD.

Some of will only be dragged into the digital age kicking and screaming

before they will let go of the ubiquitous VHS VCR is allowed to be pensioned off. The younger generation are far more digital aware these days and have less regard or fondness of the humble VCR that has served us all so well and faithfully.

VHS as a format is pretty much done and dusted, VHS is dead.

There is no denying the format is in it's last throws and becoming a thing of the past after 30 years I should think so, but like you I still have a VCR too

sitting and waiting-dying of lonleienss as the DVD player and PVR have taken over and the VHS VCR gets an occaisional workout with old tapes we should have had converted to digital a long time ago.

While your good old VHS VCR may last a few more years and might even

be repaireable for some time to come, don't bank on it.

Many of us have made half a moce and bought a VCR-DVD combo player but we still haven't bothered to back up those much loved tapes to digital.

What to do?, well if you can find a VHS>DVD recorder you can mae a very basic copy of reasonable quality or ship out your tapes to the pro

and have them converted to DVD.

VCR's are so cheap right now you could still buy one as a spare just in case if you can't be bothered to make the change.

We found them in department stores for the same low price as a DVD player less than $60.00!

VHS videotapes are still available at your supermarket in case you just don't want to move on from the VHS VCR and tapes are so cheap it is

obvious that VHS and VHS VCR is coming to a close.
